Ground yourself

Feel your feet on the floor. Press your palms flat on a surface. Name 5 things you can see right now. Say them out loud if you can.

Anchor your senses

  • Splash cold water on your face or wrists
  • Chew a black peppercorn (seriously — it helps)
  • Hold an ice cube in your hand
  • Smell something strong: coffee, lemon, lavender

Get comfortable

  • Sip cold water — focus on the temperature
  • Lie down somewhere comfortable
  • Put on something familiar — a show, music, a podcast
